Meal Planning Monday

The I only went out for a couple of meals last week. Both were at the V&A! The first one I had Artichoke Bruschetta with Cucumber and Chickpea Salad and Beetroot and Radicchio Salad. Yummy and fresh.

I also went to Comptoir Libanais for lunch with my mum, we had a dips platter, falafel (which were huge), a halloumi manou'sha and some kibbeh. It was ok, the food wasn't as good as other Lebanese I have had but it was passable.

Next week, I'm meant to be going to the theatre on Monday, but the tube strike has put the end to that. Then next weekend I'm going to on a retreat in Tunbridge Wells. I'm really looking forward to some me time.

Meal Planning Monday

So I haven't shared a meal plan in a while and so you've missed out on my culinary exploits over the last few weeks.

First up I went to a cookery workshop at The Foundling Museum, all about a Foundling Christmas, we made a version of what the Governors would have eaten for their Christmas Dinner and our group made this Very Grand Salad. It was incredible and was part of a larger meal including pheasants and a whole baked salmon!

I made a second trip to The Delaunay. I only managed to capture my starter and pudding this time. I had Mushroom Pierogie to start, which was really very good. I then had a Chicken Schnitzel Burger for main and Chocolate and Grand Marnier Dobos to finish. Really very good also.

We also went to Mr Pangs in Stamford for our usual before Christmas treat. Again I only managed to get the starters! Shredded Chicken, Chicken Curry Triangles, Seafood Gold Cup and Five Spiced Prawns. The meal was as delicious as ever and it underlines why we've been coming here for something like 20 years!

I didn't, sadly, take any photos of our Christmas meal, so on to New Year's Eve. I went to a friends house for the evening and we had Lebanese take away from Mini Hiba in Walthamstow, we picked a selection of their hot and cold mezze and pastries and it was very good.

This meal plan is very vague and will no doubt be subject to shuffling and change. I'm not really sure what's happening next week!

Meal Planning Monday

Last week was busy. My veg bag arrived, last week I got jerusalem artichokes, carrots, turnip, leeks and kale. I've already made Leek and Swede Soup.

I also had my work's Christmas Dinner on Friday night at The Elgin on Ladbroke Grove. I only managed to take a picture of my starter; Bubble and Squeak with Poached Egg and Hollandaise Sauce. That was really good and the best part of my meal.

This week is also busy. I've got a cooking workshop at the Foundling Museum on Tuesday, which I'm really looking forward to and also some theatre on Thursday. At the weekend I'm going to the Delaunay again with my family. I'm really looking forward to that too!

Meal Planning Monday

So, although I did go out for meals during the week. None of them were particularly notable! Then on Saturday I struck gold! For lunch I went to Mamie's on Catherine Street in Covernt Garden for galletes. I went for the Forestiere Complet, which was cheese, ham, mushroom and egg and was absolutely delicious. They have this ipad ordering system which you do all yourself at the table.

Then for dinner I went to the Delaunay. I chose it because the friends I was eating with are vegetarian and they have a good fish selection and a separate vegetarian menu. The meal was absolutely wonderful. I started with Salmon Tartare, which came with picked veg and toast and was very tasty. I followed that with Mushroom Stroganoff and Spaetzle, which again was really very good. Then I had Kaiserschmarren for pudding, which is cut up pieces of dough with plum compote. It was huge but so so good. I had to chare it with one of my friends in the end! I will definitely be going back.

This week I have several evenings out of theatre and then my Works Christmas Meal on Friday. I also made lots of soup this weekend, so I'm stocked as it's definitely the weather for it! I can't decide on Sunday lunch but hopefully inspiration will strike later in the week!

Meal Planning Monday

So last week was busy, really I'd like a rest week but this week doesn't show signs of getting any quieter! Before we went to the theatre in Hampstead we once again went to Guglee, this time I tried the Seabass Nazakat, which was basically seabass with herbs and chilli steamed in a banana leaf with Bombay Aloo and a Mint Paratha. It was delicious and much better than their Chicken Tandoori.

My veg bag also arrived this week, in it I got squash, carrots, broccoli, cavolo nero and fennel complete with enormous fronds!

I also gave my gingerbread biscuit recipe out to a parent at school and she gave me some of the cookies she made. They were delicious!

Then on Thursday we went for Afternoon Tea at The Ritz, which we found rather disappointing. The staff were rude, both on arrival and they tried to take our food away before we had finished, when we still had 30 mins left at our table. The sandwiches were unexciting and a bit dry. The scones were terrible, far too full of baking powder. The cake offerings were miserly given the money we had paid and very uninspiring, the only good things were the macarons that actually tasted of lemon and the raspberry tart. Needless to say I won't be going back, it is clearly a con for the tourists, I'll go to the Wolseley next door for a better Afternoon Tea for half the price.

This week promises to be just as busy. I'm trying to fit exercise around everything and just about managing. I'm only allowed to swim on my back and use an exercise bike, both of which I have discovered are much more fun with a friend!

Then on Saturday I went to my friend Daniela's house for Thanksgiving. My contributions this year were Apple Pie, Green Bean Casserole, Creamed Kale and Spaghetti Squash. It was a really lovely day.

Next week I am out most evenings. At the theatre and then to The Ritz for Afternoon Tea on Thursday! Then at the weekend I am going to see my sister in Bath. So meals are not all that exciting. A lot of soup!

Meal Planning Monday

So last week was, there was a fair bit of eating out and my veg bag arrived. This week I got; kale, carrots, onions, cauliflower, chillis, beetroot and a chayote. I'm not really sure what a chayote is but I'll give it a go!

On Thursday I went to Dirty Burger/Chicken Shop in Crouch End with a friend. I had the chicken with sweet potato fries and we shared onion fries.

Then we had apple pie with ice cream for dessert. The food was delicious but the service wasn't great and the got the whole of my friends order wrong!

On Saturday I had cake. We were going to go to Dominic Ansell but when we went in the place felt a bit well, pretentious! So we went down the road to Peggy Porshen, which is just an emporium of pink glitteryness! Mush more our scene! We shared the salted caramel cake and the strawberry and champagne cake. Both of which were absolutely delicious.

This week I am not going out for any meals, Monday will be a sandwich from Pret, apart from Thanksgiving, which I'm helping to cook at a friends house. I am really looking forward to it and have been tasked with green bean casserole and apple pie.

So I completely forgot to take pictures of either of the meals I went out for last week! Instead I'm including a picture of a giraffe we got to feed on Saturday. My sister and I went to a Meet the Giraffes experience at London Zoo and we go to feed the giraffes. They are amazing animals. really majestic and they have this fab way of curling their tongues around the carrots to eat them. We had a lots of fun!

Next week, I am going to try Dirty Burger/Chicken Shop, going to the RHS Urban Garden Show and out with a friend on Sunday. Still trying to get rid of some of those recipe clippings and also using a book this week! What a novelty!

Meal Planning Monday

So last week was Half Term. I spent the first half going to exhibitions and doing householdy jobs. I also treated myself to some cake from Bea's of Bloomsbury. I went for a Jam Duffin and the German Chocolate Cake. I definitely preferred the duffin, which was delicious.

On Monday after pilates I went to Franca Manca for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised, the pizzas were not particularly expensive and they are absolutely delicious. The crust is sourdough and I went for Gloucester Old Spot, Mushroom and Ricotta. I can definitely recommend it.

Finally on Thursday I went to The Olive Grove, Oundle with my mum where we shared a mezze platter. There was plenty on this for two and I walked away feeling rather full! I wasn't all the impressed with the falafel but the pitta was nice, hot and crispy and the dips were yummy.

This week it's back to work and 7 weeks until the Christmas holidays!! I am out a couple of times, for an Indian on Monday I suspect and then to the Lyric Bar and Grill on Thursday. Next weekend I am going to meet some dinosaurs at London Zoo and possible play some board games in Draughts. I am still trying to get rid of some of those magazine and newspaper clippings, so that's where the majority of this weeks meals come from!

Meal Planning Monday

Here are a few things I have eaten this week:

I took a trip to Shake Shack in Westfield, Stratford and was sorely disappointed. I went for a Shackmeister, which was sadly rather salty and appeared to contain raw onion and the chips were only just lukewarm, I'm not sure this is much of a step up from McDonalds and I don't think I'll bother going back.

I did however, find solace at Maitre Choux. I went with a friend and we got a salted caramel eclair, a raspberry macaron eclair and 2 choquettes. I have to say that the eclairs were outstanding but for £7 they should have been! They don't take cards either, so make sure you have some cash handy. Delicious!

I got my veg bag this week containing onions, beetroot, broccoli, chard and a leek.

We also had lunch provided at school this week and this is what greeted me when I turned up in the staff room at lunchtime, it was a feast!

This week is a shorter meal plan as it's half term and I am off to my parents house for a few days towards the end of the week.

Monday
Bacon and Greens Pasta with a Poached Egg
Out with my sister

Tuesday
Turkish Baked Pancakes
Courgette Cheshire Cheese Bake

Wednesday
Spicy Salmon Naan Bread Pizza

Meal Planning Monday

I only went out for one meal last week, to Fez Mangal in Ladbroke Grove for dinner. It was really good Turkish food, and there is something about that rice. I don't know what they do to it but it is so tasty! I had Chicken Shish.

This week is the last one before half term and it's sneaked up on me! I am going out a few times, and I have book club on Tuesday. The weekend is hopefully quiet. I'm still trying to make recipes from my newspaper clipping and also use things up in the freezer.

Meal Planning Monday

So I haven't done a whole lot of Meal Planning Mondays recently and I haven't posted any interesting photos for a while either. So I thought I'd catch you all up on what I have been eating out over the last few weeks.

I went for lunch a couple of weeks ago at Mildred's Kings Cross with a friend. Mildred's is a vegetarian restaurant, with it's main restaurant in Soho and this is the newest restaurant. I had the Aubergine and Halloumi Burger with a side of Sweet Potato Fries and then we shared a Chocolate Beetroot Fudge Cake with Ice Cream. Both was really really good.

I also had dinner at Arabica in Borough Market, we shared Crispy Semolina Crumbed Seafood, Moutabel (aubergine dip) with Flatbread, Cheese and Za'atar Man'ousheh and Cretan Dakos Salad. All of which were delicious and I went back a couple of weeks later and had other itms from the menu which were equally delicious. This is fab Lebanese food.

I also went to Aqua Shard for a Roald Dahl themed Afternoon Tea, it was really fun and very chocolatey tea. The views were also stunning.

Last week I went to the RHS Harvest Festival, which was like a huge Village Show! There were some enormous vegetables!

I also got my first veg bag after a break over the summer; I got tomatoes, broccoli, collard greens, onions and garlic.

I also made myself a delicious noodle soup on Saturday with veg from the garden and my veg bag. Yum!

Followed by Vegetable Calzone. Both were absolutely delicious and I will definitely order from them again.

As you can see I've got a bit of my cooking mojo back. I'm loving using fresh ingredients from the garden and next week I am continuing to do that and I am also continuing to use those recipe cuttings for the majority of my meals. I am going out a couple of times next week. First to Mildred's in King's Cross for lunch on Monday and then to Borough Market on Tuesday. Next weekend I'm going to my parents on Sunday and hopefully to Compton Verney to see the 1950s design exhibition.

Meal Planning Monday

So I have been eating a few interesting things whilst I've been incapacitated. I stayed at my parents house for two and a half weeks and whilst there we went to our favourite Chinese restaurant, Mr Pangs in Stamford.

We started with paper wrapped prawns, seafood gold cup and five-spiced prawns.

Then followed with crispy chilli beef, sizzling prawns with spring onions and garlic and mandarin chicken. We've been coming here for about 20 years, usually for special occasions and the food has always been fantastic and it was no different this time.

I went for Afternoon Tea at BB Bakery one Saturday too, I've been on the bus and the boat afternoon teas that they do but I've never had afternoon the at the cafe. It was fine, it's not the best afternoon tea but they do at least do hot chocolate!

In my garden this year I have been growing black tomatoes and they have finally ripened. I just thought they looked really cool! Some have gone a bit red but some are totally black. They make for a very pretty salad!

My Mum made me scrambled egg a couple of times and the eggs were so orange that I thought I'd take a picture of that too!

When I got back to London my Mum and I went to Cay Tre for dinner. I really enjoyed this meal, the food was really fresh and very tasty. We had prawn summer rolls that were lovely and crunchy.

Then we followed this with Monk Fish Cheeks with Lemongrass and Chilli and Sizzling Prawn and Squid, which came with lots of veg and we had Egg Fried Rice. There were so many other things I could eat on the menu so I will definitely go back.

Then just before my Mum went home we went to The Barn in Highbury for lunch. I had their pasta of the day, which was with roasted veg and a pesto cream sauce. The portion was huge and very tasty.

Anyone who cooks regularly and enjoys cooking will have a huge stack of magazine clippings. I have a huge box file! I finally had time to go through them and pick out some I wanted to make. So the next two weeks meal plans are from those clippings. Most are from Waitrose Food and various newspapers but hopefully there's a lovely variety of food!

Meal Planning Monday

So I went out for dinner quite a few times last week, but only remembered to take pictures of two! Firstly I treated my Father to dinner for Father's Day. We went to Burger & Lobster, they have recently changed their menu and we had the combo; 6oz burger, small lobster and fries with lemon and garlic sauce, for £28. It was very tasty, I preferred the lobster and my father preferred the burger!

My veg bag arrived last week too: carrots, mushrooms, salad leaves, cucumber and broccoli. I am so glad that there was no cauliflower! This is my last bag for a while because I'm away quite a bit over the summer and I'll have stuff from my own garden too.

On Friday I went to Bone Daddies with my sister. I've been wanting to try it for ages and I was not disappointed. We both had the T22: Soy Ramen, Chicken, Cock Scratchings, Onion and Nori in Chicken Bone Broth. This was delicious, the depth of flavour from the broth was just out of this world.

Finally, this is my garden, looking all lush and green. It's gone a bit crazy because of all the rain and sun we've been having, things are well on their way.

So this week is the last week of term. I'm spending my time running around chasing books and generally tidying things up ready for the summer holidays. Meal Planning Monday

So I had a fantastic week last week. The Queen apparently will spend 8 days celebrating her birthday and I spent 6 last week and I still have one to come in July!! Not bad!

On Tuesday I went on the Cheese Lovers Tour at Cheese at Leadenhall. We got to try 10 cheeses between us along with bread, crackers, chutney and membrillo. We only realised that I hadn't taken a photo after we were over half way through, we were too bust scarfing down the cheese! We had a really good selection of cheeses and there were some definite favourites in there.

On Wednesday I met my sister and we went for cocktails at Barrio in Shoreditch. I had some kind of tropical cocktail, which the bartender set on fire!!

We then went round the corner to Blues Kitchen for dinner. We started with Crab Doughnuts to start with, which were absolutely delicious.

This was followed by burnt ends and smoked chicken. We both agreed that we liked the smoked chicken best. This was served with coleslaw and fries and we also had a side of spinach with almonds.

For dessert we split an Alabama Mess, Salted caramel ice cream, blueberry coulis, marshmallows cookies and meringue. Topped with pecans & bourbon cream. It was immense and delicious!

On Thursday I went to Molly Bakes on Kingsland Road for a Freakshake! It was again amazing! Ice Cream Cookies Sandwich, Marshmallow, Cream, and Raspberry Milkshake.

On Saturday I went to Osterley Park in the morning and then I went back to Kua'Aina for those Mahi-Mahi Fishfingers. I loved these fishfingers, the texture is very different to normal fishfingers, it's more like swordfish. It came with fries and we had a side of onion rings. Yum!

We then walked to Cutter and Squidge and I had a coke float and a slice of Blueberry Dreamcake. The cake was so moist.

On Sunday I met some friends and we went to Saporitalia on Portobello Road for lunch. I had the Capriciosa Pizza, which was really good.

It was definitely a very foodie week!

This week is somewhat restful! Only two weeks until the end of term! Pilates tonight, theatre tomorrow and Wednesday, then a rest, although I think I am dancing on Saturday again.
